A New "Get Get"

When a package arrived on our doorstep today and it was addressed to Gabby she was elated and had to open it at that very moment.  Luckily my phone was in hand so I could video tape her reaction.  She laboriously opened the package to find a beautifully detailed carefully mimicking textures and binding of the infamous "get get" that Grandma made very quickly when she found out Gabby needed a blanket that was large enough to cover her entire body.  Gabby's reactions to the new blanket (which she now calls Hello Kitty blankie) was an array of emotions in about a two minute period. First, she started to cry because she was afraid it was intended to replace her "Regular Pink Get Get", but once I explained that we were not going to take her "Get Get" away she started to inspect the blankie and admire it. She loved the fact that the satin was light pink like her other blanket and the more she inspected it the more excited she became.  She discovered Grandma had embroidered Hello Kitty and a Butterfly on it (among other perfectly chosen designs that include most of Gabby's interests).

Although her new Hello Kitty blankie has not taken the place of "Regular Pink Get Get," she has grown to love it and allows it to stay in her bed each night with her and I even catch her covering herself with it some nights and asking for it when she cannot quickly find Get Get.  She loves it and it is an heirloom we will cherish forever and always.  Thank you Grandma for making her such a gift with so much love.  Gabby, Michael, and I love it and think of you every day when Gabby uses it.  Although, it hasn't taken the place of her other blanket, it is nice to know that there is another blanket that she will let us use on cold nights especially to cover her sweet long legs.  We love you!

Sacrafices for My Angel

Everyone knows that being a parent is full of sacrifices and some are more difficult than others. So far being a Mom I have "sacrificed" my skin thanks to stretch marks, my youthfulness, thanks to the worries that cause the new wrinkles I notice weekly, my pretty legs thanks to the varicose veins I received during pregnancy that never went away, the comfort of sitting thanks to the back pain I have had ever since pregnancy, a good night’s sleep, and the list goes on... However, none of these things truly feel like a sacrifice (although I do miss sleep and my non-damaged body) they are just part of being a mommy and I wouldn't trade parenthood for anything! Today, however, a very difficult sacrifice was made, although I know it was the only choice. Ranger, the dog Michael and I had for 7 ½ years, was given to a new home today. He bit Gabby on her head when she was about 9 months old and then about a week ago he nipped at her and unfortunately that was the last straw. M

Interesting Fact

Today I went to the doctor for my now bi-weekly appointment. This is only the second time he has gotten out a measuring tape and measured my engorged stomach. My boss was talking about how interesting it is when they measure you...so I asked my doctor about it today and it's true! Whenever you are in your 20 something week and further along until very close to the end of pregnancy the number of centimeters from your pelvic bone to the top of your uterus should approximately be the same as the number of weeks pregnant you are. This week I was 28 centimeters and I am 28 weeks! So Gabrielle is right on schedule.
