I want to start off by thanking everyone for coming to the shower, I felt very loved! I am only sorry that I never had more than enough time to say "hello" and then disappear again! The total number of people at my shower was 45! I cannot believe that I know that many people much less than many women who love me enough to torture themselves at a shower.
My Mom, sister, and friend Kasey went way over board on the whole thing, but I'm not complaining. There was enough beautiful food to feed a refined army, a candy table with nothing but pink and white candies (to make sure all of the kids were nice and hyper), there were handmade candy boxes to take home as favors, there were adorable cakes both real and made of diapers, there was a diaper wreath to welcome you on the front door, pink fresh flowers, a handmade "Welcome Gabby" sign, and a sea of gifts! I know that this may not paint the most elegant picture, but I think the shower was as elegant as is possible.
After about 30 mintutes of welcoming people the shower was started. My mom made this tear jerking slide show of pictures of Michael and me that went perfectly with the music she put it to. Then there were a few games that were very creative. Finally, the opening of probably literally at least 75 gifts. Let me put it to you this way, there were so many gifts that the kids who were helping me open the gifts got bored opening presents about half way through and disappeared! I was tearing through the gifts as quickly and politely as possible and I think I opened gifts for an hour straight. I had two helpers at all times repacking gifts and handling cards. Poor spectators must have been so bored! I bent over so many times that I think I worked my abs out quite well because they were sore for the next two days. I got some of the most thoughtful and creative gifts I've ever seen! I got handmade clothes that were just the most beautiful and amazing things you have ever seen, a handmade quilt, a diaper duty tool belt for the daddy to be, more handmade clothes, and hand painted letters for the wall that say "Gabby!" I am so greatful for everyone and the gifts they gave us because it really has helped us become so much more prepared for the baby! We have taken inventory to determine what we still need to buy, but we haven't had a chance to put up all of the gifts, mainly because of my hospital stay. Although the real shower has ended, we still have a drizzle of shower gifts coming in the mail, which is really fun because I make Michael open them...so he has a mini shower too!
But now the fun begins, we plan to work on the baby's room this weekend and as soon as it looks like a nursery I will post pictures! Thank you everyone for all of your support and love for Michael, me, and of course Gabrielle!
